The New Hampshire Department of Corrections has implemented preventative measures since January 2020 to help keep COVID-19 out of the facilities.

These initiatives could not happen without the full cooperation and participation from staff and residents.

Necessary transfers to NHDOC facilities are triaged by healthcare staff prior to entry.

Staff are screened upon arrival and required to wear face masks.

Social distancing measures implemented when possible.

Facility Management

Cleaning and disinfecting regiment is elevated

Four times a day we spray the doorknobs the tables, the seats, the showers the sinks, the mirrors. Anything that is eight to nine feet up on the pods.

The cleaning started, the change started, we got to feel the effects of it, it was palpable with all the staff coming in and out every day.

Restricting movement while allowing for programming and services to continue.

Resident Howard

Everyday there is somebody here in Mental health, all you’ve got to do is go to see the Officer and the Mental Health people come over here now and we don’t go to mental Health, they come right over.

What are residents most concerned about?

Peoples concerns here are the older guys like me is their family on the streets. We are not really nervous about in here. We are worried about our family you know.

I think we gage it by the impact it has on our families.

How are residents passing the time?

Strong man competitions, hand ball, basketball, racket ball, spades, wisk, I mean we’ve got all kinds of stuff going on.

We have the cornhole games now, guys have been doing a lot of ah sports and exercising and also a lot more cards have been added so we’ve been having a lot more tournaments.

I’m involved with leading a bible study every night from 6:30 – 8:30 so it’s a very different way for that respect and I’m very thankful to have brothers in the unit that want to get together to study.
